FFF is operated as a non-profit organization. The operating expenses are covered by research grants from The Research Council of Norway, members fee and specific contributions to some research projects from member companies and others.

The annual budgets are normally between 9 and 10 million NOK, approximately half of which are research grants from the Research Council (PROSMAT programme).
